Vegetative parts: plants tufted, 0.13–0.3 m tall, basal diameter 0.01–0.03 m, crown diameter 0.1–0.2 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons or with stolons. Fertile culms branching, finely warty or roughly warty, olivaceous, 0.15–0.3 m tall, diameter at base 0.6–0.8 mm, diameter at apex 0.3–0.4 mm. Sheaths closely convoluted, 4–10 mm long, pale brown, often papillose, apical margins broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro hair-like, straight and erect, 0.5–1.5 mm long, broad apical membranous margins seems to have replaced the lobes. Males: male inflorescence with 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets, sparsely paniculate (with the spikelets usually paired on side branches, and the main inflorescence axis characteristically flexuose), 20–80 mm long, 10–30 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, like the floral bracts, membranous. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, elliptical or obtriangular, apex truncate or acute, 4.5–6 mm, 2–3 mm, with (1–)2(–3) flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 2.5–4.5 mm long, oblong, acute, lax, chartaceous, bract upper margin membranous, thinner texture than the body, bract awn minute or absent, sheaths, spathes and bracts fairly similar, more or less chartaceous with a membranous upper margin, not sharply distinct from the body. Male flower 2–2.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals membranous, oblong, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals as other tepals, glabrous. Anthers 1–1.3 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence sparsely paniculate (Spikelets often solitary on short side branches, or in the axis of these side branches), 50–120 mm long, 10–20 mm wide, with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile or pedicel simple, linear or elliptical, apex rounded, 4.5–5.5 mm long, with 1 flowers, with 0 sterile bracts (but this spikelet is difficult to interpret). Female bracts shorter than flowers, 2.5–3.5 mm long (this is interpreted as the second bit that stays behind on the plant), oblong, acute, chartaceous, apical margin membranous, paler than body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 3–5.5 mm long (this is interpreted as the entire unit that comes away from the plant), without a fleshy pedicel, with four tepals (two hard sepals, and two petals. Needs confirmation). Female tepals bony, glabrous and smooth, at least as tall as nut, wrapped around it and obscuring the surface, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices rounded, inner whorl shorter than outer. Female outer lateral tepals like other tepals (outer wrapped around the whole flower, including the second sepal), 3–5.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 3–5.5 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong, 2–4 mm long. Staminodes absent. Styles feathery, 3. Style bases seated on a stylopodium. Ovary with 1 locule, indehiscent (probably - looks like the fruit falls with the flowers).
