Vegetative parts: plants single isolated shoots, 0.3–0.5 m tall, with stolons. Fertile culms branching, smooth or roughly warty (papillae often so densely packed that the surface appears smooth), olivaceous, 0.3–0.5 m tall, diameter at base 0.8–1.5 mm, diameter at apex 0.3–0.6 mm. Sheaths closely convoluted or loosely convoluted, 4–11 mm long, brown, apical margins coriaceous, like the rest of the body or narrowly membranous, hyaline shoulders tall, acute, hyaline shoulder 0.5 of sheath body length (as tall as the awn), apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute or obtuse. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 2–4.5 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets, racemose (but often branched at the base of the inflorescence), 30–70 mm long, 3–15 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, as tall as spikelets, coriaceous, with broad upper membranous margins. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, linear or elliptical, apex acute, 6–9 mm, 1–2 mm, with 2–3 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts as tall as flowers or taller than flowers, 2.5–6 mm long, oblong, acute, lax (but the whole enclosed in the spathe), chartaceous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent. Male flower 2.8–3.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals membranous, oblong, inner tepals shorter than outer tepals. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, glabrous. Anthers 1.2–1.5 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence racemose (But branched at the base, so that there are many inflorescences in a cluster), 12–45 mm long, 1.5–3 mm wide, with 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes as long as the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile, linear or elliptical, apex acute, 5–7 mm long, with 1 flowers, with 0 sterile bracts. Female bracts shorter than flowers or as tall as flowers, 3–5 mm long, oblong, rounded, chartaceous, apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 3.5–4 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 3.5–4 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 3.5–4 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong, 3.5–4 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 1 locule, dehiscent. Fruit: seed 1.2–1.7 mm long, (0.92–)1.01(–1.08) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter round in cross section or triangular in cross section, brown or grey, smooth.
