Vegetative parts: plants mat-Forming, 0.15–0.45 m tall, basal diameter 1–4 m, crown diameter 1–4 m, with stolons. Fertile culms unbranched or sparingly branched or branching, round (not compressed), solid or with a small central cavity, smooth or punctate (some culms are punctate but this is only visible at very high magnification (*40 or 50)), green or olivaceous, 0.15–0.45 m tall, diameter at base 0.6–1.4 mm, diameter at apex 0.5–1.1 mm. Branch axil indumentum absent. Clusters of sterile branches at the nodes of the fertile branches absent. Sheaths closely convoluted, 10–25 mm long, margins entire or ciliate, reddish-brown with dense tan speckles, apical margins coriaceous, like the rest of the body, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro penicellate (quite slender), straight and erect, 1–5 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets, paniculate, 7–60 mm long, 2–18 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, like the floral bracts or shorter than spikelets, coriaceous. Male spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, oblong or elliptical, apex undifferentiated, 5–11 mm, 1–2.6 mm, with 8–16 flowers, pedicels shorter than the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts taller than flowers, 2.5–6.5 mm long, oblong or ovate, obtuse or acute, margins entire, coriaceous or chartaceous (flexible but quite thin though not membranous), bract upper margin like body of bract or membranous, thinner texture than the body (not always membranous), bract awn less than half as long as the bract body. Male flower 2–5 mm long. Male tepals sepals and petals the same rigidity, chartaceous, oblong or elliptical, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous or keel densely villous. Anthers 1.5–2.3 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Females: female inflorescence interrupted or globose, 10–40 mm long, 2–12 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous or cartilaginous. Female spikelet pedicel simple, oblong or obovate or undifferentiated, apex undifferentiated, 8–18 mm long, with 5–12 flowers, with 1–3 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, erect, 5–9.5 mm long, oblong, acute, coriaceous, apical margin like rest of bract or membranous (not always membranous), same as body of bract, awn minute or absent or less than half as long as the bract body. Female flower 4–7 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel, six tepals. Female tepals chartaceous, keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib raised (very slightly), margins entire, apices acute, inner whorl shorter than outer. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 4–6.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal ovate, 4–6.5 mm long. Female inner tepals ovate, 3.5–6 mm long. Staminodes absent. Styles feathery, 2. Style bases fused to form a pillar. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (1.28–)1.51(–1.8) mm long, (0.88–)1.03(–1.2) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter round in cross section, brown.
