Vegetative parts: plants several much-Branched culms from base, 0.2–2 m tall, basal diameter 0.01–0.1 m, crown diameter 0.1–1 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms much branched or branches whorled at each node, finely warty or roughly warty, green, 0.5–2 m tall, diameter at base 1–4 mm, diameter at apex 0.01–0.1 mm. Sheaths closely convoluted, 3–15 mm long, green to brown, apical margins narrowly membranous, hyaline shoulders tall, acute, hyaline shoulder 0.4–1 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 1.5–5 mm long, mucro as long as body of sheath. Males: male inflorescence with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets, sparsely paniculate, 2–8 mm long, 2–3 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, like the floral bracts, chartaceous. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, ovate or orbicular, apex rounded, 2–5 mm, 2–4 mm, with 4–8 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts shorter than flowers or as tall as flowers, 1–2.5 mm long, oblong, obtuse, margins entire or shallowly toothed, chartaceous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent, very variable: from half as long as flowers to taller than flowers. Male flower 1.1–1.7 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, chartaceous, petals membranous, oblong, inner tepals shorter than outer tepals. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 0.75–1 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence sparsely paniculate, 3–25 mm long, 3–5 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes insignificant or shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile, orbicular, apex rounded, 2–4 mm long, with 1–3 flowers, with 1–3 sterile bracts. Female bracts shorter than flowers or as tall as flowers, 1.5–2 mm long, ovate, acute, chartaceous, apical margin with honeycombed cells, same as body of bract, margins shallowly lacerated or toothed, awn minute or absent. Female flower 2–2.5 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals chartaceous, glabrous and smooth or keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices obtuse or acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 2–2.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong or ovate, 1.8–2.4 mm long. Female inner tepals linear or ovate, 1.5–2 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, white, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed 1.3–1.5 mm long, 0.8–1 mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter triangular in cross section, brown or white (milky white), smooth.
