Vegetative parts: plants tufted (Almost shaving-brush shaped), 0.06–0.25 m tall, basal diameter 0.01–0.1 m, crown diameter 0.05–0.2 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons or with stolons. Fertile culms unbranched or sparingly branched or branching, round (not compressed), solid or with a small central cavity, roughly warty, olivaceous, 0.05–0.25 m tall, diameter at base 0.5–0.8 mm, diameter at apex 0.4–0.8 mm. Branch axil indumentum absent. Clusters of sterile branches at the nodes of the fertile branches absent. Sheaths more than 1 per culm, persistent, with no abscission line, closely convoluted, 5–25 mm long, orange to reddish-brown, upper 1/3 in colour and texture similar to the lower 2/3, apical margins narrowly membranous or broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders tall, acute, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, rounded. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 1–4 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets, racemose, 4–32 mm long, 2–8 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, shorter than spikelets or as tall as spikelets, coriaceous. Male spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, undifferentiated, apex undifferentiated, 4–7 mm, 1.5–2 mm, with 7–10 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 3.5–4.5 mm long, ovate, acute, margins entire, cartilaginous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn less than half as long as the bract body, acuminate recurved small bracts. Male flower 2.5–3.2 mm long. Male tepals sepals and petals the same rigidity or sepals more rigid than petals (outer whorl slightly more rigid), chartaceous, petals chartaceous, oblong or ovate, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, glabrous. Anthers 1–1.7 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Females: female inflorescence interrupted, 5–35 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous. Female spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Female spikelet sessile, undifferentiated, apex undifferentiated, 4.5–6 mm long, with 4–7 flowers, with 1–2 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, erect, 3.5–5 mm long, oblong, acute or acuminate, coriaceous or cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, margins entire, awn less than half as long as the bract body. Female flower 2.5–3.1 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel, six tepals. Female tepals cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth or keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, margins entire, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length or inner whorl shorter than outer (inner whorl often slightly shorter than outer). Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 2.5–3 mm long. Female odd outer tepal ovate, 2.5–3 mm long. Female inner tepals ovate, 2.4–2.7 mm long. Staminodes absent. Styles feathery, 2. Style bases fused to form a pillar. Ovary with 1 locule, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (0.76–)1.12(–1.44) mm long, (0.56–)0.75(–1.04) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter round in cross section, white, rugose (with very distinctive hills/bumps on the surface); funicular elaiosome absent.
