Vegetative parts: plants tufted, 0.2–0.4 m tall, basal diameter 0.1 m, crown diameter 0.2–0.3 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms sparingly branched, smooth, olivaceous, 0.2–0.4 m tall, diameter at base 0.5–1.2 mm, diameter at apex 0.5–0.8 mm. Sheaths closely convoluted, 6–15 mm long, brown to dark brown, apical margins narrowly membranous, hyaline shoulders membranous margins continuing behind awn, hyaline shoulder 0.01–0.1 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro penicellate or awl- or needleshaped, straight and erect, 2–4 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets, racemose, 10–45 mm long, 5–15 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, shorter than spikelets or as tall as spikelets, coriaceous, wrapped around the spikelets. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, elliptical or obovate, apex obtuse, 9–16 mm, 3–5 mm, with 3–6 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 6–10 mm long, ovate, acuminate, cartilaginous, bract upper margin with honeycombed cells, which eventually decay (mostly in the acuminate apex area), bract awn minute or absent, brown in colour, the bases decussate on the axis. Male flower 4–6.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals membranous, oblong, inner tepals shorter than outer tepals. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 2–2.4 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence racemose, 12–30 mm long, 5–8 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile, elliptical, apex rounded or obtuse, 9–14 mm long, with 1 flowers or 2 flowers, with 2 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, 6–9 mm long, ovate, acute or acuminate, cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract or with honeycombed cells (not well developed), paler than body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 4–6 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous or keels of lateral sepals densely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner whorl shorter than outer. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 4–6 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 4–5.5 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong, 4–5.5 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (1.6–)1.84(–2.12) mm long, (1–)1.09(–1.2) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter plano-convex in cross section, brown or tan (mottled), smooth.
