Vegetative parts: plants tufted (Rather untidy), 0.3–0.45 m tall, basal diameter 0.02–0.1 m, crown diameter 0.1–0.5 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms sparingly branched, finely warty (tubercles densely packed and flat-topped), olivaceous, 0.3–0.45 m tall, diameter at base 1–2 mm, diameter at apex 0.6–0.8 mm. Sheaths closely convoluted, 25–35 mm long, reddish brown, apical margins narrowly membranous, hyaline shoulders tall, acute, hyaline shoulder 0.5–1 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro penicellate or awl- or needleshaped, straight and erect or recurved, 10–20 mm long, massive acute membranous shoulders, and even longer awn-tip. Males: male inflorescence with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets, racemose, 10–20 mm long, 6–10 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, taller than spikelets (largely as an overtopping, long awn), coriaceous, very similar to the sheaths, with a remarkably long awn which is taller than the spikelets. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, oblong, apex rounded, 8–13 mm, 4–6 mm, with 3–6 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 3.5–5 mm long, oblong (deeply concave), rounded, cartilaginous, bract upper margin membranous, thinner texture than the body (very narrowly), bract awn minute or absent, concolorous deeply concave structures. Male flower 4–4.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals membranous, oblong, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 2–2.3 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence racemose, 10–30 mm long, 5–9 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes longer than the spikelets, not obscuring spikelet, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile, oblong, apex rounded or obtuse, 7–11 mm long, with 3–5 flowers, with 1–3 sterile bracts. Female bracts as tall as flowers or taller than flowers, 4–6 mm long, oblong, rounded or apiculate (then with small apiculus: bracts concave navicular), cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract, darker than body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 4.5–5.5 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 4.5–5.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 4.5–5 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong or ovate, 3.5–4 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed 1.6–1.8 mm long, 0.8–1.3 mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter rectangular in cross section or triangular in cross section, brown, colliculate.
