Vegetative parts: plants clumped, 0.6–0.8 m tall, with stolons. Fertile culms unbranched, smooth or finely rugulose, olivaceous, 0.6–0.9 m tall, diameter at base 1–1.5 mm, diameter at apex 0.7–1.2 mm. Sheaths loosely convoluted or flat and standing free from culm, 15–30 mm long, pale brown, apical margins narrowly membranous or broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro absent or awl- or needleshaped, straight and erect, 0–1 mm long, broad pale spreading sheaths. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets, racemose, 30–60 mm long, 10–20 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, shorter than spikelets (but only slightly), coriaceous, similar to sheaths. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, oblong or ovate or obovate, apex rounded, 15–20 mm, 7 mm, with 10 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 7–12 mm long, ovate, acute, chartaceous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent or less than half as long as the bract body, with a narrow membranous margin. Male flower 4.5–6 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, chartaceous or cartilaginous, petals membranous, oblong, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 2.5 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence racemose, 30–70 mm long, 15–20 mm wide, with 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets (almost as long as spikelets), persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile, oblong or ovate, apex rounded, 15–25 mm long, with 16–22 flowers, with 2–5 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, 10–15 mm long, ovate, acute, chartaceous, apical margin like rest of bract, paler than body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 5.5–7 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute or acuminate, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 5.5–7 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 5–6.5 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong, 4–5.5 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed 1.5–1.6 mm long, 1–1.1 mm in diameter, shape in side view oblong, shape in diameter triangular in cross section, brown, colliculate (rather finely).
