Vegetative parts: plants clumped or tufted, 0.35–0.5 m tall, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons or with rhizomes. Rhizome very short with culms aggregated at base or spreading, unbranched or sparsely branched, culms evenly spaced, 2–3 mm in diam., culms 0–10 mm apart. Fertile culms sparingly branched, round (not compressed), solid or with a small central cavity, smooth or punctate (punctate?), olivaceous or speckled golden (speckled golden?), 0.3–0.5 m tall, diameter at base 1–2 mm, diameter at apex 0.8–1.8 mm. Sheaths more than 1 per culm, persistent, with no abscission line, loosely convoluted, 15–23 mm long, reddish to dark brown, upper 1/3 in colour and texture abruptly different from the base, and soon decaying, apical margins coriaceous, like the rest of the body, hyaline shoulders membranous margins continuing behind awn, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acuminate or acute. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 2.5–3.5 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets, racemose, 15–55 mm long, 8–18 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, shorter than spikelets, cartilaginous. Male spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, broadly elliptical to nearly round, apex undifferentiated, 7–12 mm, 5–10 mm, with 30–50 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile or shorter than the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts as tall as flowers or taller than flowers, 4.8–5.2 mm long, ovate, acute, coriaceous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent. Male flower 3–4 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals (slightly due to the support of midrib), chartaceous, petals membranous, oblong or elliptical (very broad), inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 1.8–2.2 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Females: female inflorescence interrupted, 15–65 mm long, 6–11 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, cartilaginous. Female spikelet pedicel simple, obovate, apex undifferentiated, 11–25 mm long, with 15–30 flowers, with 2 sterile bracts. Female bracts as tall as flowers or taller than flowers, erect, 7–11 mm long, ovate, acute, coriaceous, apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, margins entire, awn minute or absent. Female flower 5–8 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel, six tepals. Female tepals chartaceous or cartilaginous (inner petals and odd outer one are chartaceous while the outer tepals are rather cartilaginous due to the reinforcement of the midrib which makes them inflexible), keels of lateral sepals densely villous, midrib raised, margins entire, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 5–6.2 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 5–6.2 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong or elliptical (inner tepals are oblong, tending to linear), 5–6.2 mm long. Staminodes absent. Styles feathery, 2. Style bases fused to form a pillar. Ovary with 1 locule, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (1.68–)1.78(–1.92) mm long, (1.24–)1.39(–1.6) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter round in cross section, brown, colliculate (lots of little pappilae); funicular elaiosome absent.
