Vegetative parts: plants tangled. Fertile culms branching or much branched, finely rugulose or finely warty, green, diameter at base 0.5–0.9 mm, diameter at apex 0.07–0.2 mm. Sheaths persistent, with no abscission line, closely convoluted, 3–6 mm long, pale brown below, upper half membranous, upper 1/3 in colour and texture abruptly different from the base, and soon decaying, apical margins narrowly membranous or broadly chartaceous and soon decaying, hyaline shoulders tall, acute, hyaline shoulder 0.2 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 1–2 mm long, lower half pale brown, persistent, upper portion more membranous and soon decaying. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets, sparsely paniculate, 40–90 mm long, 10–20 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, like the floral bracts, chartaceous, ovate, very acuminate. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, elliptical, apex acute, 3.5–4.5 mm, 1.3–1.7 mm, with 2–3 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile or longer than the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts as tall as flowers, 2–2.5 mm long, oblong, rounded or acute, centre chartaceous, margins broadly membranous, bract upper margin membranous, thinner texture than the body, bract awn minute or absent. Male flower 1.9–2.1 mm long. Male tepals sepals less rigid than petals, chartaceous, petals chartaceous, linear or oblong, inner tepals longer than outer tepals. Male outer lateral tepals as other tepals, keel densely villous. Anthers 1 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence sparsely paniculate, 3–20 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets (ovate, acuminate), persistent, chartaceous. Female spikelet sessile, elliptical or obovate, apex truncate or obtuse, 3.5–4.5 mm long, with 1 flowers, with 3–5 sterile bracts. Female bracts shorter than flowers or as tall as flowers, 2–2.5 mm long, ovate, acuminate, centre chartaceous, margins broadly membranous, apical margin membranous, paler than body of bract, awn minute or absent or less than half as long as the bract body. Female flower 2.5–3 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth or keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 2.5–3 mm long. Female odd outer tepal linear or oblong, 2.5–3 mm long. Female inner tepals linear or oblong, 2–2.8 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, white, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 1 locule (Pillans describes two locules, but the specimens all seem to develop only one locule), dehiscent. Fruit: seed 1.2 mm long (only one seed seen, from the type collection in the BOL), 1 mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical or round, shape in diameter plano-convex in cross section, brown or white (ornamentation colour), brittle, white ornamentation.
