Vegetative parts: plants tufted, 0.5–1 m tall, basal diameter 0.05–0.1 m, crown diameter 0.2–0.4 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms sparingly branched or branching, round (not compressed), smooth or finely warty, green or olivaceous, 0.3–1 m tall, diameter at base 1–2.5 mm, diameter at apex 0.6–1.4 mm. Sheaths persistent, with no abscission line, closely convoluted or loosely convoluted, 13–33 mm long, gray-brown, apical margins narrowly membranous or broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders membranous margins continuing behind awn, hyaline shoulder 0.1–0.2 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, obtuse. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 3–6 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets, paniculate, 40–100 mm long, 30–60 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, shorter than spikelets, coriaceous, grey, on the inflorescence axis. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets pendulous on flexible pedicels, oblong, apex rounded, 12–18 mm, 8–12 mm, with 8–12 flowers, pedicels shorter than the spikelets or as long as the spikelets or longer than the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts more than twice as tall as flowers, 6–11 mm long, elliptical or ovate, acute, cartilaginous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent, red-brown. Male flower 3.5–5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals chartaceous, linear, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 1.7–2.5 mm long, included in the flowers (possibly exserted, but filaments seem too short). Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence linear, 25–90 mm long, 20–40 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet sessile, oblong, apex rounded, 20–35 mm long, with 12–20 flowers, with 0–2 sterile bracts. Female bracts at least twice as long as flowers, 10–18 mm long, oblong or ovate, acute, cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, margins undulating, awn minute or absent. Female flower 5–6 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, keels of lateral sepals densely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 5–6 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 4.5–5.5 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong, 4.5–5.2 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, white, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (2–)2.17(–2.32) mm long, (1.16–)1.29(–1.36) mm in diameter, shape in side view oblong, shape in diameter rectangular in cross section, grey, pitted.
