Vegetative parts: plants tangled (Forming a continous tangle under the other vegetation, but not dense), 0.2–0.5 m tall, basal diameter 0.05–0.1 m, crown diameter 0.2–1 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms branching, round (not compressed), finely rugulose or rugose, green, 0.2–1 m tall, diameter at base 0.4–1.1 mm, diameter at apex 0.1–0.2 mm, terminal parts flexuose. Sheaths persistent, with no abscission line, loosely convoluted, 4–10 mm long, brown, apical margins narrowly membranous, hyaline shoulders small, rounded or tall, acute, hyaline shoulder 0.3–0.5 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, obtuse or truncate. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 0.5–1.5 mm long, mucro shorter than the membranous shoulders. Males: male inflorescence with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets (each at the end of a relatively long branch), sparsely paniculate, 5–15 mm long, 4–6 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, like the floral bracts, cartilaginous, in texture like the sheaths, but in size like the bracts. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, ovate, apex rounded or obtuse, 4–6 mm, 3–5 mm, with 4–8 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 2.5–3.5 mm long, oblong, obtuse, chartaceous or cartilaginous, bract upper margin like body of bract or membranous, thinner texture than the body (decaying), bract awn minute or absent, golden brown. Male flower 2.4–2.6 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals chartaceous, oblong, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 1–1.2 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence sparsely paniculate, 3–10 mm long, 2–4 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous or cartilaginous. Female spikelet sessile, oblong or ovate, apex rounded, 4–8 mm long, with 1–5 flowers, with 0–1 sterile bracts. Female bracts as tall as flowers or taller than flowers (but when bract apex decays, they are shorter than the flowers), 2.5–5 mm long, oblong, rounded or obtuse, chartaceous or cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract or membranous (lower bracts with a more profound membranous margin), paler than body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 3–3.5 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals chartaceous or cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth or keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous (needs careful observation), midrib flush with the tepal body, apices rounded or acute, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 3–3.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal linear or oblong, 3–3.5 mm long. Female inner tepals linear, 2.5–3 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, white, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 1 locule, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (1.4–)1.59(–1.76) mm long, (0.84–)0.88(–0.96) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter round in cross section (with two longitudinal grooves), pink, smooth.
