Vegetative parts: plants tangled, 0.2–0.6 m tall, basal diameter 0.05 m, crown diameter 0.3–0.5 m, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms branching, round (not compressed), smooth, olivaceous, 0.2–0.4 m tall, diameter at base 1.5–2.5 mm, diameter at apex 0.7–1.3 mm. Sheaths persistent, with no abscission line, closely convoluted or loosely convoluted, 8–20 mm long, golden-brown, apical margins broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders tall, acute, hyaline shoulder 0.3 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, obtuse or truncate. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 2–6 mm long, distinct by the large membranous shoulders. Males: male inflorescence with 1 spikelet. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, like the floral bracts, coriaceous or cartilaginous. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, obovate, apex rounded, 10–20 mm, 5–15 mm, with 5–10 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile. Male bracts taller than flowers, 7–14 mm long, oblong or ovate, acute, cartilaginous, bract upper margin membranous, thinner texture than the body, bract awn minute or absent or less than half as long as the bract body (only on lower bracts), pale honey-brown with an abruptly distinct membranous upper margin. Male flower 3.8–5.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, cartilaginous, petals membranous, linear or oblong, inner tepals shorter than outer tepals. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel sparsely villous. Anthers 2.2–3 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Pistillode present. Females: female inflorescence with 1 spikelet. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, coriaceous or cartilaginous. Female spikelet sessile, oblong or obovate, apex rounded, 15–25 mm long, with 1–6 flowers, with 0–2 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, 10–20 mm long, oblong or ovate, acuminate, cartilaginous, apical margin membranous, paler than body of bract, awn minute or absent or less than half as long as the bract body. Female flower 5.5–6.5 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, keels of lateral sepals sparsely villous, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner whorl shorter than outer. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 5.5–6.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal linear, 5.4–6.2 mm long. Female inner tepals linear, 4.5–5.5 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, white, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 1 locule, dehiscent. Fruit: seed (1.72–)1.88(–2.2) mm long, (1–)1.18(–1.28) mm in diameter, shape in side view elliptical, shape in diameter triangular in cross section, silvery or brown (almost pink), smooth.
