Vegetative parts: plants clumped or tufted, 0.25-0.45 m tall, basal diameter 0.01-0.3 m, crown diameter 0.01-0.3 m, with rhizomes. Rhizome long and slender, with culms clustered, each culm cluster with a number of diverging rhizomes, 1.2-2.7 mm in diam., culms 15-40 mm apart. Fertile culms unbranched, round (not compressed), solid or with a small central cavity, smooth or finely rugulose or finely warty, olivaceous, 0.25-0.45 m tall, diameter at base 0.7-1.2 mm, diameter at apex 0.4-0.8 mm. Branch axil indumentum absent. Clusters of sterile branches at the nodes of the fertile branches absent. Sheaths absent or one per culm, persistent, with no abscission line, closely convoluted, 20-40 mm long, margins entire, light to reddish-brown with tan speckles, the sheaths take on a more greyish colour als they grow older, upper 1/3 in colour and texture similar to the lower 2/3, apical margins narrowly membranous, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, rounded or truncate. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 9-15 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 11-20 spikelets or 21-50 spikelets, paniculate, 10-55 mm long, 8-10 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes caducous, taller than spikelets, cartilaginous. Male spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, undifferentiated, apex undifferentiated, 3.5-4 mm, 2.5-3 mm, with 4-6 flowers, pedicels as long as the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts shorter than flowers, 1.5-2 mm long, ovate or orbicular, rounded or obtuse, coriaceous or cartilaginous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent. Male flower 2.5-3 mm long. Male tepals sepals and petals the same rigidity, coriaceous, oblong or ovate, inner tepals longer than outer tepals. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, glabrous. Anthers 1-1.2 mm long, included in the flowers. Females: female inflorescence interrupted or linear, 12-42 mm long, 8-15 mm wide, with 6-10 spikelets or 11-20 spikelets. Female spathes longer than the spikelets, not obscuring spikelet, persistent or caducous (not sure), cartilaginous. Female spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Female spikelet pedicel sparsely branching, orbicular, apex undifferentiated, 4-4.5 mm long, with 3-4 flowers, with 0 sterile bracts. Female bracts shorter than flowers, erect, 1.5-2 mm long, ovate, obtuse, coriaceous or cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, margins entire, awn minute or absent. Female flower 2.5-3 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel, six tepals. Female tepals bony, glabrous and smooth, midrib raised, margins entire, apices acute or acuminate, inner whorl longer than outer. Female outer lateral tepals like other tepals, hidden by bracts, or bracts are shorter than flowers, 1.5-2 mm long. Female odd outer tepal ovate or orbicular, 1.5-2 mm long. Female inner tepals ovate, 2.5-3.1 mm long. Staminodes present. Styles feathery, white, 3. Style bases free. Ovary with 3 locules, dehiscent. Fruit: seed 1.5-2 mm long, 1-1.5 mm in diameter, shape in side view ovate or elliptical, shape in diameter round in cross section or triangular in cross section, brown or tan, smooth.
