Vegetative parts: plants clumped, 0.6–1 m tall, basal diameter 1–4 m, crown diameter 1–4 m, with rhizomes. Rhizome very short with culms aggregated at base, 4–5 mm in diam., culms 5–10 mm apart. Fertile culms unbranched, round (not compressed), solid or with a small central cavity, smooth, olivaceous, 0.6–1 m tall, diameter at base 2.3–2.7 mm, diameter at apex 1.2–2 mm. Clusters of sterile branches at the nodes of the fertile branches absent. Sheaths more than 1 per culm, dropping off, with an abscission line present, loosely convoluted or flat and standing free from culm, 20–30 mm long, margins entire, golden-brown, upper 1/3 in colour and texture similar to the lower 2/3, apical margins coriaceous, like the rest of the body, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute or obtuse. Sheath-mucro absent or penicellate, straight and erect, 0.5–2 mm long.
Males: male inflorescence with 11–20 spikelets or 21–50 spikelets, paniculate, 70–90 mm long, 25–35 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, taller than spikelets, chartaceous. Male spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, oblong, apex obtuse, 7–20 mm, 5–10 mm, with 7–10 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile or shorter than the spikelets, terete or angular. Male bracts taller than flowers or more than twice as tall as flowers, 6–10 mm long, linear or ovate, acuminate, margins deeply lacerated or toothed, chartaceous or membranous, bract upper margin membranous, thinner texture than the body, bract awn minute or absent. Male flower 4–4.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals and petals the same rigidity, cartilaginous, oblong or ovate, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals keeled or winged or as other tepals, glabrous. Anthers 1.6–2 mm long, included in the flowers. Pistillode present.
Females: female inflorescence linear, 40–60 mm long, 15–25 mm wide, with 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets or 21–50 spikelets. Female spathes longer than the spikelets, not obscuring spikelet, persistent, chartaceous. Female spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Female spikelet sessile or pedicel simple, orbicular or undifferentiated, apex undifferentiated, 8–12 mm long, with 2–4 flowers, with 0 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, erect, 10–15 mm long, linear or ovate, acuminate, chartaceous or membranous, apical margin membranous, paler than body of bract, margins deeply lacerated or toothed, awn minute or absent. Female flower 6–8 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel, six tepals. Female tepals cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth, midrib flush with the tepal body, margins entire, apices acuminate, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals like other tepals or conduplicate, hidden by bracts, or bracts are shorter than flowers, 6–8 mm long. Female odd outer tepal ovate, 6–8 mm long.
