Vegetative parts: plants tufted, 0.5–0.7 m tall, compact, without spreading rhizomes or stolons. Fertile culms sparingly branched, round (not compressed) or compressed after pressing, solid or with a small central cavity, finely warty or roughly warty, olivaceous, 0.5–0.7 m tall, diameter at base 0.2–0.6 mm, diameter at apex 0.5–1.1 mm. Branch axil indumentum absent. Clusters of sterile branches at the nodes of the fertile branches absent. Sheaths more than 1 per culm, persistent, with no abscission line, closely convoluted, 20–40 mm long, reddish-brown with tan speckles and lighter coloured membranous margins, upper 1/3 in colour and texture similar to the lower 2/3, apical margins broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acuminate. Sheath-mucro penicellate, straight and erect, 4–15 mm long. Sterile branch leaf-sheath 4–5 mm long.
Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets, paniculate, 15–45 mm long, 5–14 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, taller than spikelets, coriaceous. Male spathellae inconspicuous or absent. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, oblong or elliptical, apex undifferentiated, 7–15 mm, 2.2–2.5 mm, with 7–11 flowers, pedicels shorter than the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts taller than flowers, 5–8.5 mm long, oblong or ovate, aciculate, margins entire, coriaceous, bract upper margin membranous, thinner texture than the body, bract awn between half and as long as the bract body, Awns are erect or reflexed. Male flower 4.5–5.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, chartaceous (very thin), petals chartaceous, oblong or ovate (usually slightly wider at the base than at the tip but not rounded at the base, sides parallel), inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals conduplicate, keel densely villous. Anthers 2.4–3 mm long, included in the flowers.
Females: female inflorescence interrupted, 15–45 mm long, 7–20 mm wide, with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets or 11–20 spikelets. Female spathes longer than the spikelets, obscuring spikelet, persistent, coriaceous. Female spikelet pedicel sparsely branching, elliptical, apex undifferentiated, 10–18 mm long, with 6–10 flowers, with 0 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, erect or reflexed, 10–16 mm long, oblong or ovate, aciculate, coriaceous, apical margin membranous, same as body of bract, margins entire, awn between half and as long as the bract body. Female flower 5–10 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel, six tepals. Female tepals chartaceous, keels of lateral sepals densely villous, midrib raised, margins entire, apices acute or acuminate, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals conduplicate, 4.5–6 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong or ovate, 4.5–6 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong or ovate, 4.5–6 mm long. Styles feathery, 2. Style bases fused to form a pillar. Ovary with 2 locules, dehiscent.
Fruit: seed (2.24–)2.67(–3.04) mm long, (1.24–)1.51(–1.76) mm in diameter, shape in side view oblong, shape in diameter triangular in cross section, white, pitted.
