Vegetative parts: plants tangled (Forming big hummocks), 0.1–2 m tall, basal diameter 0.5–1 m, crown diameter 0.1–1 m, with stolons. Fertile culms branching or much branched, smooth or finely warty or finely rugulose, speckled golden, 0.15–0.8 m tall, diameter at base 0.5–1.25 mm, diameter at apex 0.25–0.5 mm. Sheaths closely convoluted or loosely convoluted, 5–15 mm long, brown and speckled, as culm, apical margins broadly membranous, hyaline shoulders small, rounded, hyaline shoulder 0.2 of sheath body length, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acuminate. Sheath-mucro hair-like, straight and erect or recurved or twisted, 4–10 mm long. Males: male inflorescence with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets, racemose or paniculate, 5–50 mm long, 2–7 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, shorter than spikelets or as tall as spikelets or taller than spikelets, chartaceous or cartilaginous, broadly membranous with a long setaceous awn; occasionally chartaceous. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets erect on stiff pedicels or sessile, oblong or ovate or obovate, apex rounded, 3–5 mm, 2–3 mm, with 5–7 flowers, pedicels absent ie spikelets sessile or as long as the spikelets or longer than the spikelets, terete or angular. Male bracts as tall as flowers or taller than flowers, 3–4.5 mm long, oblong or ovate, acuminate, cartilaginous or membranous, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn less than half as long as the bract body, red-brown with a broad, pale membranous margin. Male flower 2–3 mm long. Male tepals sepals and petals the same rigidity, cartilaginous or membranous, oblong or ovate, inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals as other tepals or conduplicate, glabrous. Anthers 1.25–2 mm long, exserted from the flowers. Females: female inflorescence linear or racemose, 9–35 mm long, 1.5–5 mm wide, with 1 spikelet or 2–5 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets or as long as the spikelets, persistent, chartaceous or cartilaginous. Female spikelet sessile, obovate, apex truncate, 3.5–11 mm long, with 1 flowers, with 2–5 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers, reflexed, 3–10 mm long, oblong, acuminate, chartaceous or cartilaginous, apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, awn less than half as long as the bract body or between half and as long as the bract body. Female flower 2–4.5 mm long, with a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth, at least as tall as nut, wrapped around it and obscuring the surface, midrib flush with the tepal body, margins entire, apices truncate or rounded, inner and outer whorls the same length. Female outer lateral tepals like other tepals, 2–4 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong or square, 2–4 mm long. Female inner tepals square or obovate, 2–4.5 mm long. Staminodes absent. Styles feathery, white, 2. Style bases free. Ovary with 1 locule, indehiscent. Fruit: indehiscent fruits with a softer ovary wall. Perianth presence on fruits persistent, membranous, as tall as nuts or persistent, membranous, shorter than nut (perianth often quite bony). Nut apex smooth, without a distinct cap, wall smooth, (2.92–)3.67(–4.25) mm long, (1.08–)2.02(–2.92) mm diam., shape in side view elliptical or ovate, shape in top view round in cross section, brown or tan. Elaiosome present, white, 0.1–0.3 mm long, more than 0.5 nutlength.
