Fertile culms unbranched, smooth, olivaceous, 0.8–1 m tall, diameter at base 1.5–2 mm, diameter at apex 0.4–1 mm. Clusters of sterile branches at the nodes of the fertile branches present. Sterile branches present while flowering. Sheaths closely convoluted, 60–90 mm long, golden brown with fine gold speckling, apical margins broadly chartaceous and soon decaying, hyaline shoulders absent, apex, excluding the membranous lobes, acute. Sterile branch leaf-sheath 2–2.5 mm long, hyaline shoulder 3–4 mm long, lacerated, leaf-blade 5–8 mm long; leaf blade 0.4–0.8 mm wide. Males: male inflorescence with 6–10 spikelets, paniculate, 100–200 mm long, 35–60 mm wide. Male inflorescence spathes persistent, upper margins lacerated and largely decayed at anthesis, shorter than spikelets, chartaceous. Male flowers in spikelets. Male spikelets pendulous on flexible pedicels, oblong, apex rounded, 40–70 mm, 10–15 mm, with 5–60 flowers, pedicels shorter than the spikelets, flattened. Male bracts taller than flowers or more than twice as tall as flowers, 8–13 mm long, oblong, acute, hyaline, bract upper margin like body of bract, bract awn minute or absent, completely membranous and silver. Male flower 4–4.5 mm long. Male tepals sepals more rigid than petals, chartaceous, petals membranous, oblong, inner tepals shorter than outer tepals or inner and outer tepals the same length. Male outer lateral tepals keeled or winged, glabrous. Pistillode absent. Females: female inflorescence racemose, 40–150 mm long, 15–20 mm wide, with 2–5 spikelets or 6–10 spikelets. Female spathes shorter than the spikelets, persistent, chartaceous. Female spikelet pedicel simple, oblong, apex rounded, 20–60 mm long, with 20–40 flowers, with 0 sterile bracts. Female bracts taller than flowers or at least twice as long as flowers, 17.5–25 mm long, oblong, acute, hyaline (almost whole bract) or chartaceous (central vein), apical margin like rest of bract, same as body of bract, awn minute or absent. Female flower 6–6.5 mm long, without a fleshy pedicel. Female tepals chartaceous or cartilaginous, glabrous and smooth, at least as tall as nut, wrapped around it and obscuring the surface, midrib flush with the tepal body, apices acute, inner and outer whorls the same length or inner whorl shorter than outer. Female outer lateral tepals keeled or winged, wings entire, wings lateral sepals decurrent, without grooves, wider than body, 6–6.5 mm long. Female odd outer tepal oblong, 5.5–6 mm long. Female inner tepals oblong, 4.5–5 mm long. Staminodes present (minute). Styles plumose, white, 1. Ovary with 1 locule, indehiscent. Fruit: indehiscent fruits with a softer ovary wall. Perianth presence on fruits persistent, winged. Shape of winged dispersal unit oblong, narrower than long.
